Healthy Diet Reduces Birth Defects
A healthy diet can help protect newborn children from birth defects.
A recent study found that “increasing diet quality… was associated with reduced risks for the birth defects studied.” In addition, researchers concluded that their results “suggest that dietary approaches could lead to further reduction in risks of major birth defects and complement existing efforts to fortify foods and encourage periconceptional multivitamin use.”
Every person should be eating a healthy diet and taking the necessary nutritional supplements to maintain their health. But it is even more important for women who are pregnant or those who could potentially become pregnant. A healthy diet and good nutrition are key to reducing the risk of birth defects. They give newborns the best start to a healthy life.
