Study shows mixing lime with Viagra can make the drug four times stronger
A new study has claimed that combining a squeeze of lime with Viagra can quadruple the effects of the impotence drug.
[I understand that this study took place in NIgeria which has never been noted as a center of science research and I also understand that this is an animal study which means that it has not been tested in humans.
I get that.
Still, it is such a simple test that you can do without an unreasonable cost so why not?]
The study, conducted by the Federal University of Technology in Akure, Nigeria, consisted of giving impotent lab rats the drug by itself or with the juice of two limes.
The rats given Viagra – the branded version of the generic drug sildenafil – with lime juice began having sex within 15 seconds (while the other rats took over a minute to get busy) and had sex with twice as many female rats as their citrus-free counterparts.
According to the research, the lime juice increases the levels of nitric oxide in the body, leading to better blood flow to the organs – including the penis.
Blood tests in the experiment showed a 70% rise in nitric oxide for the rats given lime juice, The Sun reported.
The academics involved say that adding lime juice to Viagra could allow men to perform sexually within minutes, instead of the usual half-hour minimum recommended by the drug’s guidelines.
Lead researcher Ayokunle Ademosun said it is the first study to show citrus fruit can help with impotence, writing in the Journal of Food Biochemistry that the combination ‘could be very effective in the management of erectile dysfunction.’
Approximately one in five men (4.3 million) are affected by erectile dysfunction in the UK, and it is estimated to affect 322 million men worldwide by 2025, according to King’s College London.
Professor Mike Wyllie, who helped to develop Viagra in the 1990s, told The Sun: ‘On the basis of this, those wanting a boost could drink a carton of juice and then take Viagra.
‘Should they wish to speed up the effect, they could also crush the tablets.’
Though Viagra is primarily a drug for sexual impotence, it has been proven to have other uses, such as blocking the effects of high altitude sickness and combatting heart disease and Alzheimers in some cases.
Recently, a nurse was given Viagra while in a 45-day coma, which induced her to wake up.
