ACA has issued a news release applauding new low back pain treatment guidelines by the American College of Physicians (ACP) that recommend first using non-invasive, non-drug treatments before resorting to drug therapies. The guidelines, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, cite heat therapy, massage, acupuncture and spinal manipulation as possible options for non-invasive, non-drug therapies. ACA Encourages Patients to Consider Chiropractic Before NSAIDs for Back Pain
Just weeks before the new ACP guidelines on low back pain were released, a research reviewin Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases found that common over-the-counter and prescription pain medications have limited effectiveness for back pain and raise the risk of side effects. In response to this review, ACA also issued a news release to the national media encouraging people suffering from back pain to consider first trying chiropractic services and other non-drug therapies.
