Vitamin E Reduces Dementia Risk in Elderly

Vitamin E is a powerful vitamin – among other functions, it acts as an antioxidant, which has been shown to reduce the risk of developing numerous diseases, including cancer. A recent study suggests that vitamin E may serve another important function, particularly in the elderly population: brain preservation.
In the study, for those 55 years and older, those who had a greater intake of vitamin E were “25% less likely to develop dementia.” This association was noted over a period of almost 10 years. Dementia is a brain condition that includes symptoms such as memory loss, trouble performing simple tasks (especially involving calculations), difficulty expressing thoughts verbally, and problems controlling mood/behavior.
