Pesticides Increase Risk of Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease

If there were ever a reason to avoid conventional produce in favor of the organic variety, it’s made clear via the results of a recent study that evaluated the impact of pesticide exposure on the body.
Exposure to pesticides was found to have an impact on the somatic, autonomic, and central nervous systems. Specifically, researchers found that occupational pesticide exposure increases the risk of “all-cause dementia” by 38% and Alzheimer’s disease by 42% in later life.
While most of us aren’t exposed to pesticides occupationally, we should still consider the potential serious health consequences of pesticide exposure when faced with decisions about whether to eat pesticide-exposed food or to choose organic instead. “Better safe than sorry” is the best advice.
