Lipoic Acid Supplements Helps Diabetes Patients

In both lean and obese patients with type 2 diabetes, oral treatment with the nutritional supplement alpha lipoic acid at 600 mg twice a day for 4 weeks produced an increase of glucose effectiveness and a rise in insulin sensitivity and reduced fasting glucose in lean patients. Lactate and pyruvate before and after glucose loading were reduced by about 45 percent in both lean and obese diabetic patients after ALA supplementation.[1]

The implication was that the lipoic acid ingestion in these diabetic patients appeared to reduce some symptoms of diabetes, at least in the short term.
