Chiropractic Recommended for Chronic Pain

With Narcotic Overdoses on the Rise, Chiropractic Recommended
for Chronic Pain

In an article in the San Fernando Valley Sun, David A. Lipschitz, MD, Ph.D, discussed the dramatic increase in the number of women who have died from overdoses of prescription painkillers between 1999 and 2010

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 6,600 women (18 daily) die annually from overdoses of prescription painkillers and 940,000 women are rushed to the ER annually for drug use and misuse.

For people with chronic pain, Dr. Lipschiz typically recommends non-addicting medications combined with local therapy (injections, heat, cooling or electrical stimulation), physical therapy, chiropractic care and acupuncture. He also encourages education of the family and the patient about the appropriate use of addictive drugs, psychotherapy to assist with coping skills and relaxation techniques, which he says can help alleviate pain substantially.
