Dr. Lane’s Thoughts on Longevity

1) The whole longevity movement is about living longer but not enough understanding is being give to living healthy, longer.

What is the difference?  Do you really want to be alive but an invalid, stuck in a wheelchair with bad vision and taking 50 medications to keep your body alive, not enjoying anything?

So I have suggested a horrible scenario but can this be prevented? Yes, it can be prevented!

This is where I will divide my readers: there are those who want an instant answer and want to know about this secret drink or procedure or pill – ‘where is it Dr. Lane?’  Those people are idiots and I question why they read my blog.

The others understand that the only answer is small changes to lead to a big answer: Yes, you can live a long time and live healthy if you make many small changes every day, every week, and in all of your activities:

Small changes that can give you health, purpose, and desire to live

1) Eat less red meat.  We know that this kind of food should be sparse in your diet. Once in a while is ok but that doesn’t mean even once a week; more like once a month.

2) Eat mostly fruits and vegetables.  We know these are all  good for you.  Find the once you like or try new ones, avoid the ones you don’t like (your mom isn’t here anymore forcing you, ok?)

3) Choose every chance to move your body more – walk a little further each day, go to the gym and do something for 45 minutes or more as often as you can.  Walk further, walk with your kids, grandkids, neighbors, groups – just move!

4) Get away from stressful situations and people as much as possible.  You may not be able to avoid them 100% of the time but be ready to limit exposure to these toxic circumstances.  No one deserves you as much as you deserve yourself and your time.

5) See a doctor and listen to their advice.  There are very few doctors who do not put the patient first and want to help.  If you doctor seems uninterested in you then find another one; loyalty is stupid when your life is at stake.

6) Find yourself outside in the air and seeing grass and plants, trees and animals and just let that scene permeate your soul.  You were meant to slow down and take this world into your being.

7) Find your bliss – is it reading, helping your kids and grandkids, creating art, playing the stock market (i do this and it is a fun hobby for me), playing sports, watching an artist on TV, movies, or leaning more about them, decorating, being around an inspiring person – you find what makes life worth living for you.

8) Find what makes you laugh and find joy – maybe I have mentioned what that might be (kids, pets, exotic food, a spouse, even work) and do more of it.

9) Get a pet if you can handle it – they give back 100x what you give them.  I have a dog and his life revolves around me and my life is better because of him.

10) Work and purpose make each day meaningful.  Not necessarily a job because those can have the opposite effect for some people but, for me, it brings me what I need to live each day.  I have great patients and the best employees.

11) Learn a language and open your world up to people with different experiences than you.  You will never know people if you don’t understand them.

12) Perhaps you can teach English to new immigrants and make them a part of this country.  This works in every country but I am an American and my audience is mostly Americans.

13) Please protest ICE but don’t get shot by them.  This administration will be gone in 3 years and their followers dropped down a toilet (where they belong).  I have to remember this because my stress each day is more than I can take sometimes.  This is not my America and it isn’t the America for most people here – we are scared of dying by our own government but we cannot remain silent when innocent people are being rounded up and separated from their children.

Just stay away from their guns.
