Dr. Lane’s Thoughts LXXX
1) Simple lesson on being the best CDL Medical Examiner (and maybe a good employer):
a) Learn this profession better than anything you learned in medical school or chiropractic school. You must be better than you thought you could be for the simple reason that you have agreed to protect the nation’s public health by making individual decisions about the health and well-being of he people that drive and control the vehicles that can and will be on the roads transporting good and providing services.
The US government has allowed you to get paid to make serious judgements about other people. You get paid for performing this service so learn as much as you can about the many medical conditions that effect these men and women, especially diabetes and high blood pressure. Never stop learning and training to be the best examiner because other lives depend on you!
So, how serious is this? That agreement you have with the FMCSA (a department of the DOT) goes both ways. They are always looking over your decision-making, whether you know that or not. If the FMCSA decides that your decisions are putting unhealthy people onto the roads they may turn off your registry number. Consider yourself lucky if they do this – you can’t make any more decisions and this revenue stream will stop but you will keep your license to practice medicine.
For others, the federal government will send FBI agents to observe you undercover. These agents have the power to remove your medical license and send you to prison for your poor decision-making. You probably will never practice medicine again. All for your decision-making as a CDL examiner. This is not hyperbole – in 2024 out of 92, 000 examiners, 54,000 were removed.
b) Treat your staff well and pay well. Hire people who are fluent in other languages that are common in your area. Learn other languages well enough to do the exam in that language.
About pay, let’s be clear: no one works to be rewarded with a keychain or slice of pizza; give monetary awards. We give bonus and incentive pay and my employees earn them. You just aren’t sexy enough for people to do their best for slightly more than minimum wage.
Flaunting your wonderful lifestyle when you pay poorly will guarantee that people will quit.
My success as a CDL examiner is based solely on these two rules. My staff are my business and my love of being a CDL examiner (I am licensed as a chiropractor) is why I never stop reading about medical issues that affect my drivers.
c) Find a few good MD/DO people in your area to send your drivers if they are unhealthy. Not only will those doctors be grateful but you are helping your drivers who, often, have no idea where to go.
Your job is to save lives and prevent accidents – those of your drivers and the people affected by your drivers.
2) Sleeping on your left side can improve digestion and reduce heartburn. This position helps gravity support your stomach’s natural curve, easing discomfort after big meals. Add a pillow between your knees for even better alignment.
3) A recent conversation I had with someone about Trump (who I call President Dump) made me see the election as something different that Democrats and Republicans – it was actually about gender.
This man was a Black guy. He made it clear that he did not favor Kamala Harris exclusively because while she was BLACK she a was FEMALE and he was against women being President of the United States.
4) The Dump wants a ban on trans-gender troops? This is his idea of a PRIORITY for Americans?
My view on this matter is simple and it has only two ideas:
A) if you want to pledge to defend this country what does it matter what is in your pants?
B) when a soldier comes to defend me from an enemy or save my life I don’t care what is in that soldier’s or corpsman’s or Marine’s pants. I only care that they have a weapon and are proficient in its purpose.
What does it matter to anyone else?
5) If the Dump cared about America he would learn to care about its people; all of its people, not just the ones that look like him and think like him.
6) Traditional Chinese exercises like Tai Chi and Qigong are great for balance, relaxation and flexibility. They significantly increase brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in middle-aged and older adults?
