Dr. Lane’s Thoughts LXXXIV

1) You are probably normal.  You probably have a normal body and you are probably aging normally. Please take the time to rejoice over this.  People with chronic conditions, genetic abnormalities, chromosomal abnormalities, genetic predispositions, or are living with the results of accidents would like to wake up tomorrow and be you.

Stop trying to seek out strange medical therapies, odd approaches to healthcare, or unique approaches to ‘cure’ what you think are your ‘conditions.’  Most of medicine is very routine and prevention is also routine.  Nobody is trying to keep you away from some incredible therapy which would reverse your normal aging, return you to the health and vitality of a teenager, or give you abilities unsurpassed in human beings.

Stop supporting these fads.  You are just making weirdos with medical degrees rich.  Just because someone has a medical degree doesn’t make them special or give them skills beyond that of other medical doctors – we all have the same training and read the same articles.

2) These things do not make you an adult:

  • Pubic hair
  • Adult genitals
  • Having children
  • Having an education
  • Having a job
  • Owning a house
  • Owning a car
  • Having clothes or shoes
  • Owning a phone
  • Marriage

(and the list goes on)

What makes someone an adult is:

  • Turning off the light when you leave the room
  • Paying your own bills
  • Supporting your children financially
  • Learning compassion, empathy, and problem-solving human interactions
  • Getting to work on time
  • Being kind to the vulnerable
  • Doing things yourself without expecting someone else to do it or pay for it
  • Avoiding illegal temptation
  • Taking care of your health: exercise, diet, good food choices
  • Controlling your temper
  • Taking responsibility when things go wrong; if it isn’t your fault then taking a role in fixing the problem.
  • Not littering and helping to clean up the environment
  • Understanding that political differences are not a reason to abandon someone
  • Ending toxic relationship before they harm you
  • Ending relationships that drain you
  • Preparing for retirement
  • Living your life without the need for other people’s approval
  • Doing something to improve your life constantly and not just wallowing in your inactivity

3) “Health is the greatest possession. Contentment is the greatest treasure. Confidence is the greatest friend.”

~ Lao Tzu

4) To live for a long time in a healthy way you need to eat less food and sometimes skip a meal (‘faux-fasting’).  Basically, we eat too much food and we do not skip meals which causes the body to be in a constant state of producing insulin.

5) Always remember that your worth comes from your inherent value and your ability to make a positive impact on the world.

6) Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most feared diagnoses of aging, especially for people who carry the APOE4 gene variant, the strongest genetic risk factor for developing dementia. decades.

A new study in Nature Medicine shows that your diet can actually counteract genetic risk, protecting memory and cognitive function. Prioritizing unsaturated fats and omega-3s while limiting red and processed meats helps preserve neuron flexibility, memory, and resilience, especially for women and those with family history.

I have written extensively about Omega-3 and the dangers of red meat, as well as the many dangers of ultra-processed foods. I will not write them again here but you can read previous articles. Now, you have another reason to limit these three groups of dangerous foods.

7) I can and will stop my CDL drivers from getting a 2-year card if they do not improve their health. In this way I am saving lives, families, and the men themselves from premature death. I force them to live better lives and many do improve. They thank me.

8) The problem with writing this blog is that the people who need to read the content don’t. Many of them don’t read much; preferring video or audio content. Others just can’t read since this is a skill that is slowly becoming a relic of a bygone time.

If you read this blog you are probably someone who is trying to live forever – so, my kind of people!
