Overweight and Obese Children Eat Less
When conducting a study of eating habits in children, researchers were startled to find that obese and overweight children over 7 years old actually eat less than normal weight children. Once they reach 15 to 17 years old, obese and overweight children actually eat more than 250 calories a day less. Under age 7, obese and overweight children do eat more.
These findings bring a host of question, mostly centered on the role of exercise in children maintaining a healthy weight. What these findings do suggest is that obese and overweight children who want to lose weight will need to include exercise in their efforts of they want to be successful. Eating healthy and exercise need to be life habits that begin at birth. It is clearly much harder to address the challenges of being overweight and obese once this becomes a way of life.
