Dr. Lane Doesn’t Have a Doctor

It is true!  Dr. Lane doesn’t have a doctor (and hasn’t had one for 3 years) to take care of his health care needs – he has an APRN, Alice Coscia of Harrison Medical Group (973-484-2584).  Not everyone needs to see a doctor for their routine medical needs, often a APRN (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse), an NP (Nurse Practitioner), a PA (physician’s assistant), or AP (associate physician – an MD who has not finished all of their board exams) will do just fine.

These medical professionals are called “physician extenders” a loosely assigned term meant to convey that an office has medical can function just fine with just one MD or DO and many highly-trained medical professionals who can do pretty much everything that an MD can do, including write prescriptions, run lab tests, diagnose most common conditions, and be your doctor.

I have not seen an MD in 3 years!  Alice does everything I need a doctor for.  Unless you have a complex medical problem (let’s hope that you do not) a physician extender will be just fine for you.  If your problem is complex or become complex the doctor is there in the office – he has to be nearby for a physician extender to work in the office legally. How close by the physician is physically is a matter of the state’s rules.

Maybe you can live “without a doctor” as well.  More importantly, you should be confident that you are getting competent and satisfactory medical care from these excellent medical providers.  After all, Dr. Lane does!
