Dr. Lane Shares Health Tips

Certain truths need to be pointed out for all my patients and future patients:
1)      If you weight too much, you will get osteoarthritis (OA) of the knees.  You knees were not meant to get the abuse of 50 years of an extra 40+ pounds.

2)      If you move your body will be happy and will respond properly.  “If you DON’t move it, you will lose it!”

3)      3) Want to know which of these people will get OA of the knees: the 60 year old who has been training for 15 years and runs a marathon a month or the “couch potato” carrying and extra 40 pounds?
It is the couch potato.  It is IMPOSSIBLE to wear out your knees using them the way in which they were meant to be used!  Running a marathon will not wear out your knees, and NOT using your knees will not preserve them!  There is no “saving up” your knees to be able to do more with them later in life.
Use your body the way it was meant to be used!
Still, if you start at any age to improve your body, your body will forgive and do its best to repair the prior damage.
4)      All exercise is good exercise.  The best?  Brisk walking!  If you can walk, you can walk faster and that will bring you all the exercise you need to stay healthy.
5)      If you eat poorly, you will damage your body for years in the future.  It is the same as using inferior parts in your car or watered-down gas.  The car will suffer – bad nutrition will give you a bad body.  Unlike a car, you can switch to better food choice at any time and your body will forgive, heal, and improve.

6)      If you love your family, children, spouse, girlfriend or boyfriend – take care of yourself.  You may be the best thing in many people’s lives, but if you are sick or dead you have stopped doing anything kind for them.
Take care of yourself.  See a chiropractor if you have aches or pains that don’t go away.
7)      Find love and gratitude, both giving and receiving, wherever you can.  Being loved, appreciated, and grateful will add quality years to your life.

Pets can help many people who can otherwise not find human companionship.  We all need to be social or we will fail.

8)  A small amount of daily alcohol intake is health for reasons involving physiology.  Too much will kill your body cells and lead to poor health outcomes.

9)      Faith of any kind can make depression easier to handle for those who suffer from it.  It can make those that feel empty to have hope and it may lead to love.  I am not saying “religion”. I am saying “faith” – understand the difference.

10) Every day, think of something that went well and makes you happy to continue.  I am sure you can think of at least one thing.  it will become a habit and you may soon find two things!
