Dr. Lane’s Thoughts XXXXIII

1) There is no comparison for how stupid the Republican Party has been for quite some time.  What kind of leaders create videos showing one member of Congress killing another member of Congress like Paul Gosar did against Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?  You may not recall that Gosar’s own family campaigned against him during his election campaign?  That is a man who is so evil that his own family either fears him or outright rejects his opinions and ideas.

This is the behavior of a 10-year old!  Even then, the kid would be sent to the principal’s office and his parents would be called.  Later, the school would send in a child psychologist to see if the kid is a psychopath.

What do the Republicans do?  They defend his right to create the video and his right to post it online!  The Republican Party is like those indulgent parents who defend their child’s “right to express himself” any way he choose  – the parents who you are certain are raising a future criminal!

What about John Kennedy of Louisiana who questioned a well-educated woman of Russian descent who left that country when she was 7 as to whether she had “resigned the Communist Party” before she left?  She was 7…repeat that to yourself…7 – a child. Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) questioned President Biden’s nominee for Comptroller of the Currency Saule Omarova on her membership in a communist organization when she was a child (“Young Communists” – which is a group like the boy scouts) and her “radical views about regulating the economy and banking system” because he thinks that a Cornell Law School graduate who has lived in the United States for the last 40 years has been planning on bringing communist ideology into the government’s oversight of a safe banking system.

Senator Kennedy also believes that when leaving Russia there is a formal party resignation process for children.

The Republican Party refuses to rebuke its members or request that they rein in their childish and destructive impulses to even try to act like grown men and women.

2) And those lawsuits about allegations of election fraud brought about by so many Trump loyalists? Rather than being a legitimate use of the legal system to seek redress for real grievances that have an important impact on our shared society, these lawsuits has been used to manipulate gullible members of the public and foment public unrest. To that extent, these lawsuits have been an abuse of the legal system and an interference with the machinery of government.

3) When it comes to any day of Thanks giving (two words and not just one to distinguish it from an actual holiday) to the beauty of family and the bounty of love, we also consider how much deprivation is in our midst, how many have been pushed out of their homes and other places of belonging, how many people labor so hard and don’t have a penny to their name.  For those of us with “some” be kind to those with less and recall that your “some” may be shared without depriving yourself of very much.

What about donating your coat that is only slightly used to a coat drive  and not waiting until there is not much of it left?  You can probably buy another one soon.  What about some sturdy boots you don’t wear much or a hat and mittens set you won’t use because you have so many?  Charity doesn’t have to be a sacrifice in so much as it is a sloughing of the bounty you already possess.

4) Have you ever consider that the Republican Party fights mask mandates and then blames President Biden and his policies for the increase in cases of COVID-19?  If you think that blaming a decent president is a game then please do not let me stand in your way; your ‘anointed’ past president could be bothered to do anything so I can see your moral ground from where I sit.

5) Misogynic thinking (ideas against women) plays a role in economic inequality.  When wealthy men (usually, but not always, Republican men) spend money we make the leap of thinking that this is to build an economic edifice like a business or an entrepreneurial endeavor but when a wealthy woman spends money it is assumed that it is for a selfish reason.  This thinking goes back to the idea of a man earning money for the family and a woman only spending money.  This is now past the 20th century and women and men are far more equal – a both good and bad characterization – in their goals and ventures.

By constantly construing all actions of successful women as narrow and selfish we leave the opposite idea of unselfish and broad-thinking to men and, speaking as a man who has been around men his whole life I can promise you that this is far from the truth.

That is the wonderful thing about generalizations and prejudgment: it lets you think in shallow ways like a thin sheet of ice allows you to slide down the sidewalk – it makes thinks easier to deal with but at some point you run out of ice and you have to walk (think) for yourself again.

My daughters are just as capable of good and bad as any man and their goals will not be hampered by your ideas of what they do or what they should reach for.  I will always go to bat for them and I will always keep them thinking about more than appearance or femininity in what they want to do with their beautiful minds.

6) Be grateful for what you have and for a chance to make positive changes in your life every day that you are here. Be thankful every chance you get. Not because life has been easy, perfect, or exactly as you had anticipated, but because you choose to be happy and grateful for all the good things you do have and all the problems you know you don’t have.

7) I have said it before but here it is again: a vaccine is not a political statement.  it is medicine.  Prevention  of disease is everyone’s issue.  COVID-19 or measles or smallpox or rubella (and so on) does not care if you are Jewish or Republican or short or old or a practicing Catholic or transsexual or asexual or anything else your life has to show: it kills indiscriminately.

And if you are afraid of the response from your chosen influencers or family if you should get vaccinated then keep it a secret.  Like voting, vaccinations are private.

8) I like Gavin Newsom in California.  Borrowing a page from the Texas abortion ban, Newsom has introduced a bill that would allow private citizens to sue anyone who manufactures, distributes or sells assault weapons or ghost guns.

9) That stupid Ethan Crumbley kid who killed the other kids in his high school and now the parents are also in trouble.  YES! YES! YES!  Hold his parents responsible for letting a troubled weird kid to own his own gun.  If we did this for every gun owned by a kid who shoots up a school maybe we would have less mass school shootings.

Also, gun shows have no rules or background checks.  Make anyone who sells guns at any location responsible for running a background check or hold them responsible for the results of those gun sales.
