1) The idea that says that “there is a cover for every pot” that is supposed to mean that there is someone for everyone for a romantic relationship is not correct.

Romance advice should be more like storage containers:  some lids fit many containers and others don’t fit any.  Some people can contribute to many successful relationships with others and some people cannot get along with anyone.

Unfortunately, physical beauty will cause many people to be tempted to attempt a relationship with people with undesirable emotional or psychological qualities, or even deficits.

2) Extreme cleanliness around babies leads to allergies.  These allergies are probably to the cleaning agents.  Most babies are very hearty and can live well and develop strong immune systems.  This occurs even when they are living with siblings and pets and exposed to all that those two groups encounter.

3) The purpose of lawyers is to defend you against other lawyers, mostly.

4) When you encounter a situation where someone seems intent on arguing with you (including a desire to yell) make a quick calculation as to the value of “winning” the momentary argument with them.

Arguing takes time and it involves someone “losing”.  I concede to all arguments that the other side “is right” every time because there is almost never anything of value at stake when people are in the mood to argue with me.  If I find myself yelling, I feel diminished as a person.

5) This desire to “always win at any cost” is part of the training of lawyers.  This may be why they are not the best partners in friendships, sibling relationships, or marriage.  They have trouble separating their accepted behaviors in the office and what is acceptable behavior outside the office.

6) Most health issues are due to (or exacerbated by) poor choices in food and lack of exercise,  Most health problems can be improved or problems diminished by good food choices and exercise.

7) Every profession, religion, age group, and ethnic group/race has outstanding and intelligent people who raise the people they represent by their every action and statement.

There are also people who cause embarrassment  and ridicule by just breathing.  They live up to every stereotype and set a poor example for everyone.  There is no accounting for their choices of action, but it is obvious that they diminish the world by what they do and say.

Do your best to avoid the fools and seek out the good people, the good practitioners, and the good examples of who they represent.

That probably applies to other groups, but I only represent White, Jewish, tall,middle-aged male chiropractors and I try not to degrade those groups in my dealings with the world.

8) There are good doctors and bad doctors.  If you don’t like the one you have, go to a different one.  If you want, let the bad one know why you are not going there anymore.

Honestly, “vote with your feet” and find a better doctor more in tune with you and your medical needs.

9) One of the most important things you can do for yourself is finding an activity that separates you from other people and allows you to (selfishly) be by yourself.  “Me time” is important to your emotional stability.

10) The best way to run a business is to always give more than the patient or client expects, always take responsibility for a problem and resolve it to the person’s satisfaction, and find a way to like and enjoy the encounter with the client or patient.

People like being liked.

I have been honored by having my patients refer other patients to me.

11) Training and skills are not a religion that must be followed dogmatically.  Use the best your training teaches you, toss out things that do not make sense, do the best things for your patient’s health without regard to the source of the knowledge.

So many times my patients have told me about seeing an alternative care practitioner who found a way to cure a problem even though I do not understand the principle used.

On the other hand, seeing medical doctors (MD) as the beginning and end of healthcare because they control access to pharmaceuticals is also wrong.  This type of doctor (allopathic) is just one means to resolve a problem, but not the only one.

I would not use an MD for back pain.

I would not use a chiropractor if I had a cancerous tumor or was infected by worms

I would not use a dentist for a prostate issue or a gynecologist for an ankle sprain.

Use the right kind of doctor for the right kind of problem.

12) If you get a ride with someone, or stay with them when you are in town, or in some other way rely on the efforts of other people, please learn to be gracious and offer to pay for something or offer money.

No one likes to be taken advantage of.  If the offer is made for payment and is turned down, the important thing is that it was offered.

On the other hand, if you are the one providing the service without ever receiving any compensation, remember this, “no one can take advantage of you without your consent”.

13) If you intend to complain to someone about what they did, consider it like I did when I was a retail manager: if you do not have a concrete idea of what you need to resolve the problem, to “make it better”, or make you happy, just realize that I have shut off my ears despite looking like I am listening or care.

Do you want a refund?, do you want $2.00 back?, do you want to return it?, do you want me to apologize?  Make it clear to me what will put an end to this issue for you.

If you don’t know what you want, then I will listen until you get tired of talking and I hope you go away or get off the phone.

If you tell me what you want, you will probably get whatever you want because it will mean you will go away or get off the phone quicker, which is a gift to me!

If you are talking to me without a plan for resolution, then all I hear is “you are a poopyhead“, which is a common taunt of 3-year olds, which is what I think you are.

14) There is no reason to have a bad diet, especially in the summer.  You don’t have to eat specific foods, just less meat and more fruit.  No everyone likes vegetables but fruit is always a pleasant taste.  These two things (less meat, more fruit) alone will extend your life.

15) Meat is easy to figure out for its healthiness: white means “fat” and dark or red means “muscle”.  You want more MUSCLE and LESS fat!

Pork is a “white” meat = very fatty.  Bacon will kill you because it is almost all fat with the addition of large amounts of salt to “cure” it (to allow to be stored longer).

16) Fat comes from stored food in your body.  Too many calories with not enough usage will lead to fat.

You know what you do all day.  If you sit or rarely move or have a job that demands that you stay at your desk, you need less calories.

A “hearty” breakfast, lunch, and dinner + sitting all day =  fat accumulation

A “hearty” breakfast, lunch, and dinner + manual labor all day = weight loss.

It is that simple:  eat less calories than you burn off from work.  All calories are the same, but some sources are better only in that there may be less fat, chemical, or salt from the source, but calories are all the same.

My own way of keeping slim:  I eat a light breakfast, a large lunch, light dinner + being a chiropractor can be fairly labor-intensive, but mostly it is sitting and doing lots of paperwork for insurance claims.

I have a single but very intensive gym visit once a week but I also walk most of the day.

I am 6′ and 200 pounds.

17) I think actuarial tables are bullshit.  According to an actuarial table, 72 inches tall (6′ tall) + 200 pounds = overweight.

According to the table, I should be 180 pounds.  Like I said, bullshit.
