Primary Care Physicians Are Not Providing the Best Care for Low Back Pain

Guidelines for the management of acute low back pain (LBP) were issued for medical practitioners in 2004. A recent study was conducted to see if general practitioners (GPs) were utilizing these guidelines to offer the best care for their LBP patients. Sadly, the study found that “The usual care provided by primary care physicians (PCPs) for LBP does not match the care endorsed in international evidence-based guidelines and may not provide the best outcomes for patients. This situation has not improved over time.”

Chiropractic care has been shown to be advantageous to appropriate medical care for LBP. How much more so when most LBP patients are not even getting the most appropriate medical care from their PCPs?
