Spinal Manipulation Works

Some people are still not sure of the value of “spinal manipulation” (also known as chiropractic adjustments and manual therapy), particularly for chronic pain. To test the efficacy of spinal manipulation, researchers randomly divided people into two groups: one to receive spinal manipulation/mobilization and the other to receive sham (of no benefit) care. Participants in both groups were involved in “active exercise.”
After eight sessions of 4-8 weeks, the spinal manipulation/manual therapy group enjoyed a level of immediate pain relief, “lower disability” and “lower pain”. The study concluded that “these results confirm the clinical relevance of MT (manual therapy) as an appropriate treatment for CNSLBP (chronic non specific low back pain).”
