Spine Surgery Has Many Risks

According to a recent study, “major spinal surgery in the adult is associated with a high incidence of intra- and postoperative complications.” How often are there complications? The actual number may surprise you:
  • 87% of patients had at least one documented complication.
  • 39% of these were serious enough to extend their hospital stay.
  • 73.5% experienced postoperative complications (wound complications,  delerium, pneumonia, neuropathic pain, etc.).
  • 10.5% experienced surgical complications.
  • 1 ½% died.
All surgery has a serious risk of complications; many times these potential complications include death. Surgery should never be taken lightly and should be avoided if at all possible. Spend time with a doctor of chiropractic before you or a loved one consider spinal surgery. You will be glad you did.
