The Other Diabetes, Diabetes Type 1: Diabetes Inspidus

Diabetes Type 1 or Diabetes Inspidius looks like the more well-known diabetes, Diabetes Mellitus because the patient urinates a great deal but the cause is different.

With Diabetes Mellitus (or Type 2 diabetes) the cause is either a lack of the hormone insulin or a lack of a response to insulin, or a lack of a response to the receptors for insulin.  In some way the insulin and the receptors are not worikng together correctly.

In Diabetes Inspidus, a different hormone is involved, Vasopressin. Vasopressin or antidiuretic hormone (ADH) or arginine vasopressin (AVP) is a nonapeptide synthesized in the hypothalamus (a part of the brain). Science has known it to play essential roles in the control of the body’s osmotic balance, blood pressure regulation, sodium homeostasis, and kidney functioning.

People who have diabetes insipidus are successfully treated with doses of vasopressin.
