Hang On To Your Medical Card: Deadline Extended to 2015

*** CLARIFICATION *** Drivers must still submit their medical information into the Commercial Driver’s License System (CDLIS) database immediately if they haven’t already! The deadline extension discussed in this post only affects the STATE GOVERNMENTS, giving them more time to become compliant with the law and allowing them to continue requiring drivers to show their physical medical cards. Drivers are responsible for submitting their medical info to CDLIS and carrying their physical card through January 30th 2015! *****
If you were about to throw away your medical card because you were told you’d no longer need it, you may want to hold on to it for a little while longer. Despite a deadline of January 30th for drivers to submit their medical information into the Commercial Driver’s License System (CDLIS) database, many states are saying that they are not prepared to handle the data as of yet. This means that drivers will have to carry around their medical cards for at least one more year.

In 2008, states were given four years to combine drivers’ medical information with their CDLIS records. The original due date was January 30th, 2012. The deadline was then extended by an additional two years to January 30th, 2014. It has now been extended again to January 30th 2015.
